Carolyn Canfield

Carolyn Canfield is a white settler, residing with humility on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Coast Salish peoples. Following her husband’s 2008 tragic death, her lifelong activism emerged as citizen-patient leadership, named Canada’s first Patient Safety Champion in 2014. Appointment to faculty as adjunct professor in the Department of Family Practice anchors her contributions to the medical and nursing programs, medical school admissions and Health Council. Speaking invitations and advisory appointments across Canada and abroad guide practice improvement and research through planning, funding, creating and spreading new knowledge. Developing networks and mentoring aim at the capacity for transformation. She is privileged to join ISU as a positive disruptor for such talented young professionals.
